AFREC Delegation Visits NREA’s Zafarana Site
New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA)
welcomed a delegation from the African
Energy Commission (AFREC) on Friday
, 19th of December 2025,
during a field visit to the Zafarana wind
and solar energy site, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen
cooperation and exchange expertise in renewable energy projects across the
African continent.
The visit was conducted within the framework of
AFREC’s capacity-building and training
programme on renewable energy project planning, implementation, and financing.
During the visit, the delegation was introduced to Egypt’s successful
experience in wind energy projects, including operational practices, grid
integration mechanisms, as well as health, safety, and maintenance procedures.
The delegation also attended a presentation
outlining the various stages of project development and the site’s role in
supporting the transition to clean energy and reducing carbon emissions. AFREC
representatives highlighted the importance of leveraging Egypt’s experience as
a best practice model that can be replicated in other African countries.
Members of the AFREC delegation expressed
their appreciation for the efforts of the New and Renewable Energy Authority,
commending the pivotal role of the Zafarana site in advancing sustainable
development plans and promoting the wider adoption of renewable energy across
Africa.
